 First America wanted to placate the population while killing Al Qaeda. Then it moved on to "Nation-Building" (something Jorge Arbusto/George Bush II aka #43, claimed he was loathe to engage in--when 'walking for President' as his Dad had morphed the term into a pejorative regarding Iraq War 1.0 , then the Son later embraced it), while we moved Afghan Farmers onto crop replacement-was it to be Basil for Basille or Oregano for Roma? Anything but Opium. ("Traffic"). Then we put their fathers on a hit list for growing Poppy, the same list as Talib, AQ & their Suicide Bombers.

The twisted policy and circuitous route which is Afghanistan emerges from a failed initiative, from the outset, doomed to lose as we outsourced the run for Osama on a recalcitrant Communist, Gen. Dostum.

Over nine years, Americas longest misadventure overseas, (do not forget the century's long effort to kill Americas' Native Indians), has become entangled in regional politics-Kashmir, cross-border pipelines, Israeli water and energy needs, Iraq relations, Pakistani double-dealing. No one should be surprised, feign shock and disgust with either the revelations contained within or the resultant reaction by allies (who will now claim they were snookered) or Taliban (who may glean insight or gain succor).

It will be short lived. The quiet resolve to route the Taliban simmers beneath the surface.

To say that the Talib & Wahabists give Islam a bad name, or that they engage in behavior unbecoming murderers is to elevate them even more; much of the real fight remains between Extremists and Fanatics. Given the choice, the "West" chooses Extremists every time. Take care for the odd bedfellow you mate, he may have Bed Bugs.

Take the case of Somalia where the Fanatics are "The Shabaab" now under assault by African Union (AU) troops, mainly Ethiopian, and U.S. Special Forces.as they try to route the Transitional Federal Government (the Extremists).

Do not think that this attack by the Pentagon on The Messenger (Assange), rather than the inevitable, rational, conclusion you are invariably brought to about the message itself, is accidental.  Rather it is the opposite, a long-standing policy to identify the whistle blower as the enemy, vilify them, attempt to eviscerate and obfuscate. and, eventually, if all else fails, come clean and tell the truth.
